Creating Your Vision Intro
Creating Your Vision Introduction
Values & Vision
There is a reason that Creating Vision is the first module in course, and the place I tell everyone to start:
There are four things that we can spend in this life: time, attention, energy, and money. Getting clear on our values helps us to say no to the things that don’t matter so we can spend our resources on what does.
Your vision is an extension of your values. By getting clear on your vision, you can intentionally build a life you love, a family culture to pass down and a day to day that allows you to make progress toward your dreams.
This may feel a little obscure or esoteric (it’s certainly less strategic and action-based than other Raising Slow courses). But, if we aren’t clear on our values and vision, everything else is near impossible.
Having a clear vision (with the why of your values) also makes simplifying much easier. We know what we want, we have a guide, so we can weed out what we don’t want and say no to so much more. It helps us make the time for what matters. So, we start here.
A lot of the difficulty in motherhood has to do with decision fatigue, our tendency to over-commit or say yes to things that we don’t want to do, or don’t even need to do, just adding to our already full plates. We are people pleasers.
After getting clear on our values and defining our vision, we are more easily able to SAY NO to things that don’t honor them, creating space for what matters.
We sometimes get so bogged down in the grind of motherhood we forget what’s important. The laundry, the piles of playground sand, bathtime… The necessities of motherhood and running a household sometimes distract us from living a values-driven, intentional life.
Keeping our vision front of mind and incorporating them into our day-to-day can deepen our sense of purpose and our intentionality and give us calm amidst the chaos of childcare.
Course Objectives:
– Define our values using a values exercise and optional guided meditation
– Define what living our values looks like
– What to do when we cannot live in line with our values
– Create a family vision: map out your dreams, how you see your future, the relationship you want with your kids and any big plans you have for your family (and the other aspects of your life. While this course focuses on family and your relationship with your kids, there is no reason not to incorporate the other areas of your life:Â your relationships, your career, your hobbies, everything else that is important to you!)
– Take your vision and break it down into smaller, manageable pieces
– Learn what to do when the day-to-day get in the way of our goals
– Find time to regularly work on your vision
– START!
